Levine's BGS

My last class of Business, Government and Society (BGS) is barely over and I'm already missing it. My professor, Sheen Levine, is awesome, talented, brilliant and has high expectations for us to be like him. His website is http://www.sslevine.com/

On this last class, he shook every student's hand and gave a comment. To me, he said, 'Anna, I'll miss your comments.' Before taking a photograph with us, he donned on his graduation gown from Wharton, to signify that we have graduated. In my unbelief, I said, 'Prof, you love drama right?' My TA laughed. He just looked at me [for a moment, I thought he'd take offense] and said, 'Well, what's life without drama?'

Abigail said that being in Levine's class, together with meeting all the clever guests who are either executives or ambassadors, makes her want to marry someone intelligent. Coming from her, that's quite a statement. In closing, let me tell you what is Prof's opening line at every class, 'Welcome to Levine's BGS!'

Meetings

Would I be wrong to say I have more meetings than the average business men? I had 3 meetings from 3.30pm to 10.30pm yesterday. Back to back.

Since week 1 of school, I've been counting down to Week 15. Every Sunday, I tell Andrina, '___ down, ___ more to go' (no. of weeks) Finally, I'm at Week 13. I can taste it on my lips: Freedom. I'm glad I've decided not to apply for internships this summer. I remember kidding with Amanda about a summer fling because at that time, we were delirious with Biz Law fever.

Story of the day: My friend bidded on eBay at the last 3rd second for a brand new Prada tie for $30, only to be out-bidded in the very very last second of a price of $32. Sorry Alex, but the anguish on your face was priceless.

Commission Ball

On Saturday, my friend kindly asked me to be his date for his comms ball. I debated if I should go or not cos I had a marketing meeting! I decided to ditch my meeting in the evening. It was pretty worth it, quite fun. You can imagine that everyone was a photo whore, especially the newly comissioned officers. In a large room full of strangers, with my friend running around taking pictures, I really had to socialize with people I didn't know. I met many SMU-to-be officers and as usual, I scared them with stories of meetings and mugging. But from me, you'll most probably get the sunniest and cheeriest aspect on SMU cos I'm biased.

My opening line? "hi, I'm Anna, first year student at SMU. What I study? Doing a double degree in business and accountancy." Must have said this 20 times. I need to be more original.

Hello, can I come in?

Amanda and I want to stay in Amsterdam for one week. I came across this website called Couch Surfing, where you get to meet people who are willing to open up their houses to you to stay. COOL COOL COOL.

Sure there's all the dangerous stuff, but the web answers it well. Apparently every member can only be recommended by another and are screened through.

What are your two cents worth on this? It's about social capital. Are you willing to trust a stranger? Interestingly, dangerous as it can be, a society's success is dependent on such trust. One can get to bypass more transactions smoothly. Ok fine, I don't want to get too nerdy here. Haha.

Hot heart and cool head

Ps Moses mentioned a good phrase today, 'Hot heart and a cool head'. It basically means being passionate, but by using rationale and some thinking, you will do the right things. In some things, I'm pretty much the opposite. Cool heart and a hot head. I pretty unemotional and I make quick judgements, ouch!

I've decided to give up something in my life today. Yup, this moment. No more mulling over it. Zero.

Unexpected Access

I am watching Unexpected Access now. It's a gross show! The doctor was operating on a 4 month year old baby's skull. This is what happens: the scalp is peeled until a little of the eyeballs are revealed, a section of the skull is taken out (bone dust is seen), then it's put back.

Disgusting as it is, I really thank God for giving us the medical knowledge and knowhow. Everything that we know and have comes from God. Some may scoff and see it as achievements of the human race. But we are really nothing without God. Seeing how even babies are saved through such operations is nearly a miracle.

Blind Man's Bluff

Handmade photoframes for people leaving the choir
Shun desperately trying not to make a sound
Even though it appears bright here, it's actually dark. Lights have been turned off and Amanda is desperate for a clue

The choir had a post production party last night to celebrate our achievements of 2009. I learned a new game call Blind Man's bluff. The 'blind man' had to walk in the dark and catch any of us who is walking around. When a person is caught, he gives his hand to the blind man to touch. Just from touching the hand, the blind man guesses whose hand it is. It was awesome fun!
